Ford Mustang fans and drag-racing fans are likely to both be very happy with the 2014 Cobra Jet Mustang. This new version of a long-time favorite is ready to take on a new year of competition and popularity. The drag racing appropriate combination of fine Mustang parts and design is sure to be a hit.
The Mustang’s Role in Drag-Racing
Back in the second half of the 1960s, there were several factories manufacturing cars, specifically built for drag-racing. These cars included the Fairlane Thunderbolt, a Pontiac Catalina, a Challenger, and a COPO Camaro. Amidst these racing cars there was also the 428 Cobra Jet Mustang. These aptly named muscle cars were being equipped with more and more horsepower throughout the end of the 60s. Eventually, as emissions and safety standards increased, the acceptability of muscle cars and racing declined. Consumers were influenced by the rise of insurance premiums and the growing costs of gasoline. While the factories gradually reduced the numbers of muscle cars which they were producing, fans of drag-racing and muscle cars hung on to their cars and continued to seek out opportunities to show off their car’s speed and power.
Ford’s 2014 Cobra Jet Mustang – COPO Version
COPO stands for Central Office Production Order. COPO automobiles are special makes and models of cars that aren’t normally produced by an automobile brand. It can be difficult to obtain a COPO version of an automobile without some kind of pull with the brand executives. The 2014 Cobra Jet is only available in 50 units and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. This limited production will make the 2014 Cobra Jet both hard to get and highly desired. Sadly for those people who sign up after the 50 unit mark has been reached, they will have to wait for next year’s version.
